kasilof river kings & the great bait escape

Bright, flashing King Salmon were the target with the guys and their clients on the Kasilof River the past two days. This river is about 60 miles north of Homer, a distance to drive, but worth the time & gas money, as the photos show. Excited guests to the Peninsula pulled beautiful fish from these glacieral waters, and now can send home the fruits of their labors.

Meanwhile, the opportunity came up to make a great escape from the "eggery compound", (see "secret egg curing" post, below) and help out with ushering for Thurs. night's performance at our local summer theatre, "Pier One".




I could give you 101 good reasons to visit "the Pier". Sitting in on one of their great performances is enough in it's self, but the full sensory experience is in the location and charm of the environs. Take an 'ole warehouse and fill it with funky theatre seats, an intimate stage and up-ladder lighting...a side floor for the off-stage musicians, directors that greet audiences with a cookie reward for "who's come from the furthest away place to visit us tonight", hand-crafted Laurel & Hardy doors, (thanks to a local artist), concessions with dynamite popcorn, cute 'lil old ticket shack out front, and the use of the local fishing Lagoon bathrooms, across the way.


No bother that there's no indoor plumbing. No bother that you have to wear three layers to stay warm, (since there is no heating). By golly, it's theatre at it's BEST, and you simply must, must make it a "to do" for summer. The setting could not be more Alaskan, with the bay and beautiful mountains as a backdrop. Good people. Great laughs. Contemplative topics. Moving music. Excellent productions.
The escape for me was like to another planet. What a welcome retrieve from "fishville".

Meanwhile, back at the homestead, the guys are taking up the slack in the bait-production department. Good goin' boys. All is well. (now switching to a British accent)..."I've had such a lovely evening at the theatre!! I'm refreshed and ready to take up my responsibilities at fish-central."

By the way...this is the most amazing family to work with. I'm so blessed to be a part of it. :0)

Thanks, guys for your continued hard work. We are on a 24/7 shift for summer, and it's a constant happenin' place around here.
